10 Things Your Doctor Does Not Have Time to Tell You:
- Pharmaceuticals have risks and side effects as well as benefits. Ask if there are alternatives.
- Fast food kills.
- Switching from regular to diet soda is not enough. Drinking carbonated soda increases osteoporosis risk and dental problems. Drinking one soda a day puts you 3 times more at risk for Type II Diabetes (stay away from phosphoric acid).
- Type 2 diabetes need not require medication if you catch it early enough.
- Whatever the diagnosis, a doctor should provide you with information on all the treatment options- including dietary changes, supplements, mind-body options and holistic or naturopathic means.
- Do not ignore stress.
- How to loose weight sensibly. Great resource http://www.cinchplan.com/thehealthyway
- Fat is good for you! (especially for your brain, heart, skin & hair) About 30% of your diet should come from “healthy fat”- olive oil, canola oil, fish oil, nuts. Minimize saturated fats and try to avoid hydrogenated fats.
- Sleep is incredibly important. Adults need 7-8 hours a night and this does NOT decline with age. It is the time for repair of the body.
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) can almost always be improved through diet & lifestyle. Medication need not be required.
“The Physician/Patient relationship is an incredibly important partnership. Information, trust, and confidence are key. They must give you all the tools needed to stay well and healthy.”
